Food Palace, who is it for? Anyone wanting good Indian food in Lisbon without paying tourist prices. It is more of an eat-and-go kind of place rather than somewhere you stay for hours drinking Irish coffees afterwards.

After spending the afternoon up in Graça, a friend asked me what I missed most since leaving the UK. One of the first things that came to mind was a proper curry. He told me about Food Palace near Martim Moniz square, in the Moorish quarter of Lisbon, so I headed down the hill into the Mouraria district to give it a try.
From the outside, Food Palace looks exactly like the kind of curry house you would find back in Manchester. Inside, it is spotlessly clean with LED lighting and modern décor that instantly reminded me of the UK. Personally, I would prefer somewhere with a bit more Portuguese character, but I was not there to judge the décor. I was there for the food.
I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with a garlic naan. Being from Manchester and spending plenty of time around the famous Rusholme Curry Mile over the years, I know what a decent curry should taste like. Honestly, this was excellent. The chicken was tender, the masala sauce rich and full of flavour, and the naan bread properly done.
This was easily on par with many curries I have had back in England, so yes, I would definitely go back. Food Palace is ideal if you want good Indian food in Lisbon without paying tourist prices. It is more of an eat-and-go place than somewhere you sit for hours, but if you are craving a proper curry while exploring Lisbon, it is well worth checking out.
