I’d spent the afternoon around Belém and got the tram back into Cais do Sodré. By the time I got off, the last thing I wanted to do was go home and start cooking, so I went back to a small restaurant I already knew called Loja das Conservas Petiscos.
It’s tucked away on Travessa do Cotovelo, just off Rua do Arsenal near Cais do Sodré, and specialises in traditional Portuguese food. They also have a very good wine list, and the whole place has a relaxed feel to it. It’s not flashy or trying too hard, which honestly suits the food perfectly.
This time I went for Bacalhau à Brás, one of Portugal’s classic cod dishes made with shredded salt cod, onions, egg, and thin fried potatoes. Done badly it can feel heavy, but the version here was really good—full of flavour without being greasy. It’s one of those proper comforting Portuguese dishes that works especially well after a long day walking around Lisbon.
