O’Neill’s Irish Pub, who doesn’t enjoy a good Irish pub with proper pub food? It wasn’t my first visit to O’Neill’s either, as I’d been here with my daughter when she visited me back in March.
Location: Cascias
Best for: Bub grub
BLT Sandwich & Caneca
I’d been in Cascais for a photoshoot. It wasn’t the ideal time to be taking photographs at 11am, but that was my client’s choice, so afterwards I decided to grab something to eat. Who doesn’t enjoy a good Irish pub with proper pub food? It wasn’t my first visit to O’Neill’s either, as I’d been here with my daughter when she visited me back in March.
This time I ordered the BLT and a caneca (what the Portuguese call a pint). I’d seen my daughter have the BLT on our last visit and it looked too good to ignore. It arrived packed with crispy bacon, fresh salad and tomato on nicely toasted bread, served with crisps on the side. Since moving to Lisbon I’ve started to miss proper British and Irish pub grub, and this certainly hit the spot.
O’Neill’s has plenty of outdoor seating overlooking Praça 5 de Outubro, with lots more room inside if you’re looking to escape the sun. The interior has all the charm you’d expect from a traditional Irish pub, and what really stood out was the service. The lady who served me remembered me from my previous visit with my daughter and even asked how she was. It’s those little personal touches that make somewhere worth returning to.
